Who we are

Better Moose is operated by Vision of Hope Media LLC, doing business as A Vision of Hope Media ("Better Moose," "we," "us"). This Privacy Policy explains what personal information Better Moose collects, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to the Better Moose website and mobile apps.

Questions and privacy requests: support@bettermoose.com.

Better Moose is a consumer wellness service, not a healthcare provider. This policy is not a HIPAA notice, and it is not a certification of compliance with any particular law.

The short version

  • We collect the health, food, training, and wellness information you choose to give us so we can run the app for you.
  • We do not sell your personal information, including your health information.
  • We do not use your health information for advertising, and we do not use third-party advertising, remarketing, or analytics trackers.
  • We share information with service providers only to run Better Moose (for example hosting, storage, email, and AI features you use), and with people you choose to share with.
  • You can ask us to access, correct, export, or delete your information at support@bettermoose.com.
  • Better Moose is only for adults 18 and older.

Information we collect

  • Account information: name, email address, password (stored as a secure hash), email-verification records, and sign-in session records, including IP address and device/browser information.
  • Profile and onboarding information: preferred name, date of birth, adult confirmation, timezone, units, sex assigned at birth, height, goals, exercise experience, schedule preferences, workout locations and equipment, and in-progress onboarding drafts so you can resume setup.
  • Health and wellness information you choose to provide: injuries or pain, movement restrictions, notes from your health professionals, food allergies and dietary restrictions, wellness check-ins, soreness, hydration, body measurements such as weight, optional lab values you enter or import, and optional report files you upload.
  • Food and nutrition information: foods and meals you log, serving and nutrition details, corrections, nutrition targets, preferences, recipes (including recipes you import), saved meals, meal plans, grocery lists, grocery receipts you upload, and household food inventory.
  • Training information: exercise preferences, programs, planned and completed workouts, sets, cardio, and workout pain events.
  • Supplements and routines you record.
  • Photos you choose to take or upload, such as meal, leftover, receipt, and progress photos, with related details like file type, size, and time taken.
  • Location you choose to provide, such as a home ZIP code used to derive your state and metro area, and store names printed on receipts you upload. We do not collect precise device GPS location. If you tap "Use my current location" to find stores near you, your browser or phone asks your permission first; only an approximate location, rounded to about a kilometer on your device, is sent, once, to search for nearby stores (Kroger's store search receives it), and we do not store or log it.
  • Household and sharing information: household membership and shared grocery, inventory, and meal-planning data; and professional-sharing invitations, relationships, the specific permissions you grant, and a log of access.
  • Subscription information: your plan, subscription status, and access history. If you pay us directly, our payment provider handles your card details; we do not store full card numbers.
  • Consent and legal records: your cookie and optional-consent choices and a record of which version of each policy you accepted and when.
  • Product usage events, only if you allow optional analytics, and marketing-source information (such as the campaign link that brought you to Better Moose), only if you allow optional marketing cookies.
  • Security and diagnostic information, such as bot-protection results, error logs, and on Android a device-integrity signal from Google Play.

Where information comes from

  • From you, when you create an account, complete onboarding, log food or workouts, upload photos or files, import recipes, change settings, or make consent choices.
  • From Apple Health (iOS) or Health Connect (Android), but only for the specific data types you allow. You can revoke that access at any time in your phone's settings.
  • From people you share with, such as household members who add to shared lists, within the sharing you have set up.
  • Automatically, when you use the service (for example sign-in sessions, timestamps, and error logs).
  • From links you follow to Better Moose, limited to campaign and referral details, and only with optional marketing consent.

How we use information

  • To create and secure your account and keep you signed in.
  • To provide the features you use: food and nutrition logging, photo-based estimates, training plans and workout logging, hydration, wellness, progress, supplements, recipes, meal planning, grocery and inventory, household sharing, professional sharing, and reminders.
  • To personalize recommendations and apply safety behavior, such as screening recipes and foods against your allergies and restrictions and adjusting training around pain or injury.
  • To keep an accurate history: when you edit something later, we keep the earlier record rather than silently rewriting it.
  • To manage subscriptions and access.
  • To send account emails, such as email verification and password reset.
  • To protect the service from fraud, abuse, and bots, and to fix bugs.
  • To understand how the product is used, only if you allow optional analytics.
  • To comply with law and enforce our Terms.
  • We do not use your health information to target advertising, and we do not sell it.

Consumer health data

Much of what you give Better Moose is health-related (for example allergies, injuries, body measurements, lab values, food intake, and workouts). We collect and use it only as needed to provide the features you use and the purposes listed above. Accepting this policy is not treated as consent to anything beyond that: we ask you separately, with a choice you can change later, before collecting or sharing health data for any other purpose (for example connecting Apple Health or Health Connect, or letting a professional see your data). We share it only with the service providers listed below that need it to run those features, and with people you choose to share with.

We do not sell consumer health data. You can delete it in the app where available, withdraw a choice you made (such as disconnecting a health platform or revoking a professional's access), or ask us to delete your account (see Your choices and rights).

Our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy, at /legal/consumer-health-data, describes the consumer health data we collect, why, where it comes from, who we share it with, and how to exercise your rights, including under Washington, Nevada, and Connecticut law.

Service providers we use

We use the following service providers to run Better Moose. They process information on our behalf to provide their service to us. We do not send your name or email address to the AI or food-data providers below.

  • Cloudflare: hosts the app, stores your photos and files in private storage, provides bot protection (Turnstile) at sign-up, sign-in, and password reset, and transcribes audio from recipe videos you choose to import.
  • Turso: hosts our database.
  • OpenAI: analyzes content you submit to AI-powered features, namely meal, leftover, and progress photos you ask us to estimate; grocery receipt photos you upload; recipe text or screenshots you import; and recipe-idea requests, which can include the foods you have on hand and your allergies and dietary restrictions so unsafe ideas are excluded.
  • Resend: delivers account emails such as verification and password reset.
  • Sentry: receives error reports when something breaks, so we can fix it. A report contains a scrubbed description of the error, where in our code it happened, and the app version. It does not include your name, email, account or user identifier, the address you were visiting with any query string, or any meal, workout, health, allergy, or photo content. When the report is sent from your browser or app, Sentry, like any service you connect to, can see the network address the connection comes from.
  • USDA FoodData Central, FatSecret, and Open Food Facts: food databases. We send only the search term, barcode, or food identifier.
  • Kroger and its store brands (such as Harris Teeter, Ralphs, Fred Meyer, King Soopers, Smith's, Fry's, Dillons, QFC, Mariano's, Pick 'n Save, and Metro Market): only if you choose to add your grocery list to a Kroger cart. We send Kroger the item names we search for, the product codes and quantities you confirm, and the store you pick. You sign in to your own Kroger account on Kroger's site; we do not receive or keep your Kroger password or sign-in token. Kroger handles checkout and payment, including EBT.
  • Instacart, when offered: only if you choose to order through Instacart. We send Instacart the item names and quantities on your list so it can build a shopping list for you. Instacart handles checkout and payment, including EBT.
  • Stripe: processes payments if you pay Better Moose directly.
  • Apple and Google: distribute the mobile apps, process in-app purchases, provide Apple Health and Health Connect when you connect them, and on Android provide a Play Integrity device check.

Other sharing

  • People you choose: household members see the shared household resources, and a professional you connect with sees only the specific data you grant them, for as long as you grant it. You can revoke a professional's access at any time.
  • Stores you choose to order from: we share your grocery list with a store or its ordering partner only when you press the button to send it, and only the item names, product codes, and quantities needed to build the order. We do not send your name, email, health information, dietary restrictions, or allergies to stores. If you copy or share your list to another app, it goes only where you send it.
  • Legal and safety: if required by law, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Better Moose, our users, or others.
  • Business transfer: if Better Moose is sold, merged, or reorganized, information may transfer to the successor, which must continue to protect it under this policy or notify you of changes.
  • We do not share your information with advertisers or data brokers.

Grocery ordering and store partners

When you send your grocery list to a store, that store or its ordering partner handles the order, payment, delivery, and any EBT or SNAP benefits under its own terms and privacy policy. Better Moose does not collect or store card numbers, EBT card numbers, PINs, or benefit balances.

Product matches are suggestions. Check labels for allergens and ingredients yourself before you buy. Better Moose does not verify a store's product ingredients, so we do not offer product matching when anyone in your household has a saved allergy.

We keep anonymous counts of how many lists were sent to each store; which store it was, meaning its public store number, city, and state, when you pick a specific store; how many items the lists contained; and whether you confirmed that an order arrived. If you choose to enter your order total when you confirm, we keep that total too. These counts and totals do not include your name, account, household, the items on your list, or any health or diet information, and times are kept to the hour. We use them to understand what works and to report to stores, in totals, how much activity Better Moose sent them and, where it was reported, what those orders were worth. When we share a report outside Better Moose, small places are hidden so no one can be singled out. We delete these counts after 25 months.

When you tell us what an abbreviation on a store receipt means, or match it to a product, we keep that meaning for the store, such as a Kroger or a Pick 'n Save, so it is recognized on other shoppers' receipts there too. The shared meaning is only the store, the abbreviation as printed (with long numbers removed), and the catalog product it refers to. It is not linked to your name, account, or household, and it is never a food you created yourself. If enough other shoppers disagree with a shared meaning, it is replaced.

If you upload a receipt for an order you sent to a store, we may use it to confirm that order arrived and count the total of its line items as the order total, in the same anonymous counts described above, without your name, account, household, or the items themselves.

When you upload a receipt, we also read the store details printed on it, meaning the store number, city, state, and ZIP code, and the order total, the tax, and whether the order was picked up, delivered, or bought in store. We save these with the receipt so we can show them back to you and check that the receipt is for the order you sent. If it is, the total is counted in the anonymous counts described above, marked as coming from a receipt so it is not confused with a total someone typed in. A receipt for a different store, or dated long before the order, is not counted. The receipt photo itself stays in your household's private storage and is never included in those counts.

Better Moose may earn a commission from some stores or networks when you order through a link. This never changes what we recommend, and it never changes our allergy and safety checks.

Cookies and similar storage

Better Moose uses cookies that are necessary to keep you signed in, protect against bots, and remember your consent choices. Optional cookies, such as the marketing-source cookie, are set only if you allow them, and you can change your choice at any time from the consent settings. Details are in the Cookie & Storage Disclosure on the legal page. Better Moose also keeps some information in your browser or app storage on your device so screens open faster and your place is kept: recent copies of screens such as Today, workouts, food, and calendar, unsent drafts, and interface preferences (for example your preferred workout location). This stays on your device and is not a cookie; you can remove it by clearing this site's data in your browser or reinstalling the app. After you send your grocery list to a store or share it, your device also keeps a short note for up to 7 days so the app can ask whether your order arrived; it contains a time, a random identifier, and the store name, and nothing about what was on your list.

Your choices and rights

  • Access and export: you can see your information in the app, download available exports from Settings > Data rights, and email us for a copy of the rest.
  • Correction: you can edit most information in the app, or ask us to correct it.
  • Deletion: you can delete many individual records in the app. To delete your account and its data, email support@bettermoose.com from your account email with the subject "Better Moose data-rights request." Some records may be kept where described under Retention.
  • Optional consent: you can turn optional analytics and marketing cookies on or off at any time.
  • Health platform access: you can disconnect Apple Health or Health Connect in the app or in your phone's settings.
  • We respond to requests within 45 days and will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights. We may need to verify your identity first. If we deny a request, you may reply to appeal and we will review the decision.
  • Depending on where you live (for example California, Washington, Nevada, and other states with privacy laws), you may have additional rights. We honor these requests regardless of your state.

Retention

We keep your information while your account is active. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete or de-identify your information within 45 days, except for information we must keep to comply with law, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, or enforce our agreements (for example records of policy acceptance and payment records), and shared household records that other members still use. Backups are overwritten on their normal schedule.

Anonymous grocery ordering counts are deleted after 25 months. Records of commissions we receive from stores are kept as financial records.

Security

We use encryption in transit, access controls that limit data to your account and the people you share with, private storage for photos and files, and bot protection. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee security. If a breach affects your information, we will notify you as required by law.

Children

Better Moose is only for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

Where information is processed

Better Moose is operated from the United States, and our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries.

Changes to this policy

When we change this policy we publish a new version with its own effective date, and earlier versions remain available on the legal page. If a change is material, we will ask you to review and accept the new version in the app before you continue using Better Moose.
