About this policy
This policy explains how Better Moose, operated by Vision of Hope Media LLC (doing business as A Vision of Hope Media), collects, uses, and shares consumer health data. It is written for the consumer health data laws of Washington, Nevada, and Connecticut, and we apply it to everyone who uses Better Moose, wherever you live. Our full Privacy Policy covers all other personal information.
"Consumer health data" means personal information that identifies your past, present, or future physical or mental health, such as symptoms, pain, injuries, allergies, body measurements, food intake tied to your health, and workout data.
Consumer health data we collect and why
We collect this data only when you provide it or connect a source, and only to run the features you use:
- Injuries, pain, soreness, and movement restrictions, including pain you record during a workout: to adjust training around them and to keep your training history accurate.
- Notes from your health professionals that you choose to enter: to apply the limits they gave you.
- Food allergies, intolerances, and dietary restrictions: to screen recipes, foods, and meal ideas so we don't suggest something unsafe for you.
- Food and meals you log, with nutrition details and nutrition targets: to track intake against your goals.
- Body measurements such as weight, height, and sex assigned at birth, and goals you set: to calculate targets and show progress.
- Wellness check-ins, hydration, and supplements you record: to show your wellness history and trends.
- Workouts, sets, cardio, and training history: to plan and adapt your training.
- Optional lab values and health reports you enter or upload: to show them alongside the rest of your data.
- Progress photos you choose to take or upload: to show your progress, and, if you ask, to estimate changes from them.
- Data from Apple Health (iOS) or Health Connect (Android), limited to the data types you allow, such as workouts, steps, heart rate, sleep, and weight: to include it in your training and wellness history.
How we use it
- To provide the features you use: nutrition and food logging, training plans and workout logging, safety checks for allergies and injuries, progress, wellness, and reminders.
- To keep an accurate history: when you edit something later, we keep the earlier record rather than silently rewriting it.
- To keep the service secure and fix problems.
- We do not use your consumer health data for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
- Optional product analytics, if you allow them, record how features are used. They are designed not to include your health, food, or photo details.
When we ask for your consent
Collecting and using the data above is necessary to provide the features you ask for, so accepting our Terms or Privacy Policy is not treated as consent to anything else. We ask separately, with a clear choice you can change later, before we collect or share consumer health data for any other purpose: for example, before connecting Apple Health or Health Connect (your phone asks you for each data type), and before a professional you invite can see your data (you choose exactly what they see). If we ever want to use consumer health data in a new way, we will ask for your consent first.
Where it comes from
- From you, when you set up your account, log food, workouts, pain, or check-ins, or upload photos and files.
- From Apple Health or Health Connect, only for the data types you allow.
- From household members, for shared household resources such as grocery lists, food inventory, and meal plans.
Who we share it with
We share consumer health data only in these ways:
- Service providers (processors) that run Better Moose for us and may use the data only to provide their service to us: Cloudflare (hosting and private file storage), Turso (database), OpenAI (analyzing photos, receipts, recipes, and recipe-idea requests you submit, which can include your allergies and dietary restrictions so unsafe ideas are excluded), and Apple and Google (Apple Health and Health Connect, when you connect them). We do not send your name or email address to OpenAI.
- Professionals you choose: a coach, trainer, dietitian, or other professional you invite sees only the specific data you grant, for as long as you grant it. You can revoke their access at any time.
- Household members you choose: they see the shared household resources you set up together.
- Legal and safety: if required by law, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Better Moose, our users, or others.
What we don't share
- We do not send health information, allergies, or dietary restrictions to grocery stores or ordering partners. When you send a grocery list to a store, it receives only item names, product codes, and quantities.
- We do not sell consumer health data.
- We do not share consumer health data with affiliates. Better Moose has no affiliated companies that receive it.
- We do not use geofencing around healthcare facilities, and we do not collect precise device location.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- Confirm whether we collect, share, or sell your consumer health data, and give you access to it.
- Give you a list of the third parties we have shared your consumer health data with, and a way to contact them.
- Delete your consumer health data. You can delete many records yourself in the app, or delete your whole account. When we delete, we also tell our service providers and anyone we shared it with to delete it.
- Withdraw any consent you have given us, for example by disconnecting Apple Health or Health Connect, or revoking a professional's access.
How to make a request
Email support@bettermoose.com from your account email with the subject "Better Moose consumer health data request", and tell us what you'd like. You can also use Settings > Data rights in the app to download your data. We may need to confirm it's you. We respond within 45 days. If we need more time, we'll tell you why, and we'll respond within another 45 days at most.
If we decline your request, you can appeal by replying to our decision with the subject "Appeal". We'll respond to your appeal within 45 days and explain what we did. If you're not satisfied with the result, you can contact the Attorney General of your state (for example the Washington, Nevada, or Connecticut Attorney General's office), and we'll include how to do that in our response.
We won't treat you differently or charge you more for exercising these rights.
Changes and contact
When we change this policy we publish a new version with its own effective date, and earlier versions remain available on the legal page.
