Allergy & Ingredient Uncertainty Acknowledgment
Version: v1-beta · Status: published_current · Effective: 2026-08-19
Unknown ingredient or cross-contact information remains unknown, and acceptance never disables safety gates.
Better Moose can help identify possible food conflicts, but it cannot guarantee that ingredient or cross-contact information is complete, current, or safe for a particular person. If you have a serious allergy or intolerance, you must verify material information independently.
Allergies and intolerances can be serious
Food allergies, intolerances, and other food restrictions can cause serious harm, including anaphylaxis. Better Moose should be treated as one decision-support input, not as the final authority on whether a food is safe for you.
Your verification duty
When allergy or ingredient risk is material, you are responsible for reading current package labels, asking restaurants or food providers, and confirming manufacturer or supplier information before consuming a food. Do not rely on Better Moose alone for anaphylaxis-level safety decisions.
Ingredient information can change
Recipes, formulations, suppliers, preparation methods, restaurant practices, and product labels can change. A food you previously used without a problem may have different ingredients or cross-contact risk later.
Source limitations
Better Moose may rely on user-entered foods, USDA or barcode imports, recipes, meal photos, substitutions, and other datasets that were not verified for your specific product batch, kitchen, or service environment. Each source can be incomplete, outdated, or wrong.
Labeling and cross-contact context
Packaged-food labeling rules in the United States generally require disclosure of certain major food allergens in ingredient lists, but they do not eliminate all uncertainty. Voluntary advisory cross-contact statements such as "may contain" are not required on every product, and the absence of such a warning does not establish that cross-contact is impossible. Restaurant, unpackaged, imported, and homemade foods may provide less complete information.
Check current source information
When allergy or ingredient risk is material, read the current package label and, when needed, ask the restaurant, food provider, manufacturer, or distributor for current ingredient and preparation information before consuming the food.
Unknown is not safe
If Better Moose cannot confidently establish an ingredient, formulation, or cross-contact fact, the product must preserve that uncertainty rather than presenting the food as allergy-safe.
Known restrictions remain active
Accepting this acknowledgment never authorizes Better Moose to ignore a known allergy or restriction. Known incompatible ingredients and substitutions remain subject to product safety gates, and commercial placement or sponsorship never overrides allergy safety.
